Absinthe, coming soon to a liquor store near you?!

For those of you, like myself, who LOVE absinthe...it's sale is now legal in the U.S.! (and technically has been since the early 70's) Absinthe has a long and notorious history surrounded by rumors and misconceptions. (No, it doesn't make you crazy - no, it doesn't make you hallucinate and no, it won't make you want to cut your ear off like Vincent Van Gogh.)

I'm happy to learn that for whatever reason, we'll soon be able to purchase absinthe legally in our local liquor store.

A gross simplification of its flavor would be to say that it tastes a bit like black licorice w/ an herbal bitterness...I know that sounds horrible but you REALLY have to give it a chance. If any of you enjoy absinthe as much as I do, drop me a line, we can compare brands we've tried. Beware though for the inevitable flood of poor-quality absinthe knock-offs that I'm sure will soon surface. I've tried La Fee (French, yuck) and Sebor (Czech, yum!) so I'm in Jonathan's camp when it comes to the Czech stuff. I know I've got a long way to go as far as trying different kinds but this lift of the ban should make that easier. Research, research, research.
